Alter Bridge Hit Toronto In October Tuesday August 17, 2004 @ 04:30 PM By: ChartAttack.com Staff

Alter Bridge

It may be hard to believe, but we’re still writing about Creed.

I’m not sure how many more times we can put a new sarcastic spin about the band that tried so hard to take us higher, but even more uncertain is whether or not Alter Bridge will ever escape the darkly cast shadow of Creed. Perhaps they really need to do is stop touting the success of Creed as though it has something to do with the redeeming qualities of their new band — unfortunately (due to their own design), the name "Alter Bridge" is irrevocably connected to Creed, in hopes of snagging countless crossover fans. With tickets going on sale this Friday for the all ages October 4 show at The Guvernment in Toronto, and a November 1 show at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, we’ll see just how much Canada cares about a Stapp-less Creed.

Of course, while Canada caring about a Stapp-filled Creed is debatable, the band did sell a whackload of records, so while music snobbery may encourage us all to look down our noses at Alter Bridge, they may soon be on every single radio station on the dial.

Former Creed guitarist/songwriter and current Alter Bridge guitarist/songwriter Mark Tremonti is determined to return to what he calls his rock 'n' roll roots, so while the band is still connected musically to that Creed sound, the new band leans more toward the '70s. Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall — who joined Tremonti in the mutiny on board H.M.S. Creed —join Mayfield Four vocalist Myles Kennedy and have released Alter Bridge's debut album, One Day Remains, for the purpose of moving past this Creed business. Kennedy is actually a nice little addition to the band because he can actually play guitar, which might free Tremonti up to do something other than the soft-hard-soft-hard-bridge-hard routine. Rumour is that the boy can play.

The latest single is available on Alter Bridge’s official web site (www.alterbridge.com) along with previews of all the other songs off the album, so feel free to go and have a listen. Tix for the October 4 show in Toronto will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster, Rotate This and Sonic Temple.
